Mamata to give away Birsa Munda Awards
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee will hand over the Birsha Munda award for Science to Professor Bipan Tudu at a function in Adivasi Bhavan tomorrow.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday met the families of the two deceased workers of Nadia, who were among the 39 Indians to be kidnapped by the Islamic State terror group in Iraq’s Mosul in 2014.
She handed over Rs five lakh and a job of home guard to wife and children of deceased Khokan Sikdar and Samar Tikadar respectively.
Miss Banerjee reportedly asked Namita Shikdar and Dipali Tikadar to be brave and concentrate on bringing up their children. She assured to bear the education cost of their children as well.

Later, Miss Banerjee accompanied the two families to the ground floor of Nabanna to see them off.
Miss Banerjee had earlier expressed her condolences over the killing of the Indian workers in Iraq.
Khokan Sikdar, a resident of Tehatta Chitka village in Nadia, went to Iraq in 2011. Initially, he did not have to come across any struggle, but the situation worsened, and he had even planned to return.
It was on 14 June 2014, when Khokan spoke for the last time to his family members. Similarly, Samar Thikadar, who belonged to Nadia’s Chapra Mahakhola area, went missing in 2014 when he went to Iraq to work as a carpenter.
